Lest anyone say our fair city is full of annoying Hill staffers who wear pleated khakis and government wonks sporting support hose year-round, I offer you as an antidote the Shakespeare in Washington Festival - the Hill staffers will still tick you off on the Metro but I bet they're not going to be at the Taffety Punk Theatre Company's production of Skinhead Hamlet (of course, one could argue that very few at all will be at the Taffety Punk Theatre Company's production of Skinhead Hamlet, but I digress). This is Washington at its best - ballet, art, theatre, music, education, much of it with a twist - I've always enjoyed the Shakespeare Theatre's various interpretations of the Bard, such as the Two Gentlemen of Verona set in the 1950s I saw a while back.
I'm planning on the New York City Ballet performing Balanchine's A Midsummer Night's Dream, the Classical Theatre of Harlem's King Lear, and hopefully the Shakespeare Theatre's Richard III.
